Get Out of My Way or Excuse Me, Thank You

Whenever people are in my way, I’ll ask them politely to give way by saying with eye contact if possible,

“Excuse me?”

Though it could be longer like,
“Could you please step aside and let me pass through?”

After they gave way, I’ll thank them by saying,

“Thank you!”

Or a smile, a nod of head to appreciate their kindness.

But I do realize that most of Malaysian, to be specific, those people working in the office, dress professionally, well groom. Yes, those type of people, whenever they ask people to give way, they will give their ugliest face ever, no eye contact, face look down to the ground, like they are inspecting your toe nails whether it got dirt stuck inside and saying with their worst voice ever,

Changes and Improvement

I was watching a program on Discovery Science, about two people trying to create a electric generator using the wave current to power up their caravan for a wonderful picnic by the sea side.

They built a long cone and secured it at the bridge with cone’s bottom lowered into the sea. As the wave comes, it pushes the water into the cone up and down, thus, creating pressure which pushes the air outward via cone’s top opening and when the wave falls, it sucks the air in from the top of the cone and creates inward air flow.

They then created a fan blade which act like a turbine attached to a electric generator motor in hope that the air pressure can move the turbine and generate electricity to power up their caravan. However, due to the nature of the wave current which rise and fall, thus, the air flow also goes outwards and inwards according to the wave current. Because of that, it changes the rotation direction for the turbine which is inadequate to generate electricity.

They also mentioned it can only generate electricity if the fan rotates in one direction regardless the direction of the air flow which pushes out and sucks in. Therefore, they carry on which their research and findings to solve this issue. At this point of time, it was a commercial break for that program. This gives me the opportunity to think how to solve this.

Smile :)

I don’t know all of my colleagues that worked with me in the same company, but one thing for sure that is I’ll greet or smile or nod my head just to acknowledge their present within the office, or even within the same office building.

No particular reason for doing this, but one thing I found strange is, where I had experienced many times, that people looked away or avoid greeting their colleague in office. I understand if you are out on the street, it would be best not to talk to stranger, or even smile at stranger.

Once in the office, I was walking towards the pantry/photocopy machine/washroom, on coming is one of the colleague that I have seen many times, despite not knowing the name, I look straight into this person’s eyes as I’m walking and smile/greet/nod my head.

This person sees my eye contact and quickly looked down and dashed away!

I don’t feel disrespectful or stupid, I was wondering do I have anything weird on my appearance, so immediately I went to the washroom and first thing I check on myself the zip on my pants, did I left it unzipped and something left hanging there? No. No giant spider on my head, negative ink stained on my shirt’s pocket. A quick check ran from head to toes and I was completely fine by appearance.
